It has been 5 years since we last got to see what the team behind Kung Fu Panda had in store for us. I was so excited to see what the third film would be like and I wasn’t disappointed.
Much like the first two films, this one focus on discovering on po discovering who he really he is. However this time he also has to deal with two fathers, a village full of pandas and a rampaging being from the spirit realm.
There is a lot of focus on family in this film, it serves to move the plot along while also providing for a lot of emotional moments. The fights scenes are an absolute joy to watch and it really is a good looking film.
There are some incredible performances in this film from a rather talented bunch of individuals. I was surprised to learn that J.K. Simmons was in tis film as the baddie Kai and that Bryan Cranston played Po’s father Li. Kai’s fighting style in this film was pretty cool but ultimately the focus of the film was on Poe, his family and figuring out who he is in order to unlock the power of Chi.
One of the things that surprised me the most was that the character of Mei Mei, a panda skilled in the art of ribbon dancing was actually played by Kate Hudson. The reason it surprised me a lot was that the panda looks a lot like another actress called Amy Schumer, it momentarily threw me out of the film but it didn’t really matter as that particular character was not that important in terms of moving on the story.
Seeing Po interacting with other pandas for the first time, learning about them and spending time with his family was so nice to see however the villain of the film was never far from there minds. When push came to shove it was good to see everyone pitching in and helping Po out by being who they are and playing up to their strengths, especially as it made for a rather unique kung fu battle.
I am certain that fans of the Kung Fu Panda series will enjoy this film and while you don’t really need to watch the other two films, I would highly recommend doing so.
Overall I will have to say that I really enjoyed watching Kung Fu Panda 3 and I am sure that you will as well.
