Today was the day that I finally had the time to see Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and it was more than worth the wait. When it first came out there were all these negative reviews which I tried to avoid as much as possible as I wanted to go in with no reservations one way or the other.
What was good about this film was the range of characters and story-lines which actually made the two and a half hour run time pretty enjoyable. It was cool to see how the rivalry between the Batman and Superman developed, especially with the involvement of a certain Lex Luthor.
Jessie Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor was seen an interesting choice and one that many people think was probably not the best. He did a good job but once you see Michael Rosenbaum playing Lex in smallville, you really can’t imagine anybody else in the role.
It was shame that Lois Lane played by Amy Adams, didn’t have much to do in this film and spent most of it in a supportive role. Similarly it would have been cool to have seen a bit more of Gal Gadot who played Wonder Woman a.k.a Diana Prince, although it was cool to see her fight alongside Superman and Batman at the climax of this film.
There were just so many story-lines in this film that it meant that not all of them were able to be fully fleshed out and left me wanting to see more. This also created a situation in which some characters were not as developed as they could have been but it did focus on Batman and Superman a lot which is exactly what you want when their names are in the title.
The title of this film also has ‘Dawn of Justice’ in it and even those we didn’t get to see much of what will become the Justice League I did think there cameo’s were pretty cool. However between the two main characters this film definitely focused on Batman a little bit more which is no bad thing, especially with Ben Affleck playing him.
Meanwhile Henry Cavill did an excellent job of playing Superman and it was good to see the chemistry between him and Lois Lane. Seeing him doubt himself as well as the doubt coming from the government as to his intentions was an interesting part of the story. It would have been cool to have seen that developed a bit further but then it probably would have taken away from the main event.
Batman taking on Superman is something fans have been wanting to see for quite some time and it didn’t disappoint. It was exciting to see them throw down, especially with both sides facing high stakes if they were to loose. however the stakes were raised even higher when Doomsday lands on the screen causing even more damage than we had in Man of Steel.
The finale saw Wonder Woman stand side by side with Superman and Batman as they attempt to take down Doomsday. Her abilities were pretty cool and it was great to see her in action as well as what will be the start of the Justice League. It was certainly pretty cool although I definitely didn’t expect it to end like it did.
Overall while I understand where the other reviews are coming from I just have to say that I did enjoy this film. It certainly wasn’t perfect but it was incredible to watch and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the D.C universe.
