Alice Through the Looking Glass (Film Review)

Has it really been six years since we last visited wonderland, I almost couldn’t believe it when I found out it had been that long since we last took a trip to this wonderful place and saw its people. A lot has changed in the years between films but all i can really say is go and watch Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to help the Mad Hatter

First things first, I just wanted to say that if I were at sea then I would want Alice at my captain. This is especially true for those of us who don’t believe in the impossible, those of us who want a life of adventure and those of us who just want to go to the cinema and have a good time.

It is not long before Alice returns to London and the Soul crushing reality that is the patriarchy at the period in time in which this film has been set. However it is not long before Alice is able to escape into wonderland and away from her problems in our reality.

Alice is once again played by Mia Wasikowska who is an incredible actress and one who has great chemistry with the rest of the cast. One of the most enjoyable friendships to watch is that of Alice and the Mad Hatter played by Johnny Depp, in this film it also their interaction that spurs on the rest of the film.

One of the main themes of this film is that of time which is personified by none other than Sacha Baron Cohen. He is one of those actors who can either be a hit or a miss but in this film he is definitely a hit as he works really well alongside Alice and other members of this wonderful cast.

There is a lot of time travel in this film which was good to see as it meant the audience were able to learn a lot more about Wonderland, the people within it and why it turned out like it has. I found some of the revelations to be rather interesting.

Another thing I liked about this film was the visual style of this film as it really suits the characters and the type of story that they are trying to tell. The story itself was pretty good and had a lot of layers to it but I don’t think it will be one of those stories that will really stick in the back of people’s minds.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is a film that you will enjoy if you enjoy fantasy or you like watching things that are just a little bit different to the norm. It was a lot of fun and I am sure that if you go sand see this film then you will have a great time at the cinema.
