32 years after the original film and we get a new one, this time with an all female group of Ghostbusters. This film shows a journey from the first discovery to forming a team and like most films, taking on a big baddie towards the end of it.
Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.
Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) make up our squad of Ghostbusters. They are all amazing actors and I like the chemistry and conflict that is a part of this team.
It was directed by Paul Feig who has worked on such films as The heat and Spy which are films that Melissa McCarthy has starred in as well as Bridesmaids which starred Kristen Wiig. He is a pretty good director and I have to say that he did a nice job with this film.
The film starts with a classic bit of ghostly haunting with a few jump scares thrown in for good measure. However the film couldn’t start properly without hearing that famous theme, a theme I have heard many times but still manages to give me goosebumps.
While every member of the Ghostbusters brings something to the team, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann has to be my favourite. Holtzmann is an absolute genius who creates a vast arsenal of equipment with which to capture the ghosts and has one of the best action sequences of the entire film.
There are a few cameos in this film and you will spot many of them pretty easily, especially if you are a fan of the original Ghostbusters. However you will have to go and see the film to find out exactly who is in it as well as what other references to past locations and ghosts that are in this film.
Ghostbusters turns Hollywood on its head with a strong female group of Ghostbusters while their secretary Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) is pretty much only there for his looks. Kevin got to do a bit more than expected but he also a bit to over the top in some scenes.
When this film was announced there was an incredible amount of outrage and when it finally did come out I had heard a lot of mixed reviews. However after actually seeing the film I have to say that it is actually pretty decent and I am sure that you will have a good time watching it.
The characters work really well together and there are some pretty nice action sequences throughout the film. There is a good story here with some great character development, tech that adds something new and interesting and ghosts that actually look pretty cool to say the least.
If you have seen Ghostbusters then let me know what you thought of it down in the comments or why not let me know what films that you think I should be watching.
