Jack Reacher Never go back stars Tom Cruise as an ex Military Policeman and is the sequel to the Jack Reacher film that came out back in 2012. This time around it was directed by Edward Zwick and also stars Cobie Smulders as Major Turner who helps out Reacher with some trouble he had been having before the both of them find themselves in even bigger trouble.
Jack Reacher must uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy in order to clear his name. On the run as a fugitive from the law, Reacher uncovers a potential secret from his past that could change his life forever.
If you have read the book then you will know this story pretty well and I have to say that this film does a good job at following that story. The direction in this one was pretty decent and I really liked the interactions between Reacher and Turner as they seemed like they were a good team and they both had lots of scenes where they just kick ass.
The audience were also introduced to Samantha (Danika Yarosh) who is thought to be Reachers daughter which puts her in a whole lot of danger. It also means that Reacher and Turner have to do a bit of parenting which was fun to watch for a while but ultimately the character of Samantha didn’t do a whole lot for the film apart from provide an excuse for a big showdown at the end of the film.
What I liked about this film was that there were a lot of laughs and some good action sequences. It was also more wide spread than the last film with action both in Washington DC and in New Orleans which provided the backdrop to an impressive final fight between Reacher and a man simply known as the hunter (Patrick Heusinger). He may not have been that developed but at least he put up a good fight.
General Harkness (Robert Knepper) also made a brief cameo as one of the bad guys in this film. He was also the bad guy in Transporter 3 and in the fourth series of heroes and I just wish he could have had a larger role in this film. Another character I wish we could have seen more of was Espin (Aldis Hodge) who was in the TV show Leverage, his character had a lot of potential but was a bit underused.
Overall Jack Reacher Never Go Back is a decent film but not one that will stand the test of time. However if you are a fan of Tom Cruise, you like the books or if you like a nice action film then I am sure you will like this one. Lee Child is the author of the books and makes a brief cameo in this film that I am sure people will enjoy.
