It goes without saying but spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Game of Thrones which featured more reunions, callbacks and incredible battle scenes. Series seven episode four mostly took place on Dragonstone and at Winterfell with a couple of other events taking place throughout the seven kingdoms.
Last weeks episode gave us a glimpse at bronn which was cool as it has been quite some time since we last saw him. The interactions between Bronn and jamie are always good to watch and the conversation with Rickon, oops I mean’t Dickon led to a bit of levity in what would turn out to be a rather dramatic conclusion.
Meanwhile Arya makes it back to Winterfell, it’s the first time she has been there since she left back in series 1. Arya’s interaction with the guards was a great callback to that first series and I thought that her reunion with Sansa was also pretty cool. However the best moment came when Arya sparred with Brienne because it showed two incredible fighters having a bit of fun while displaying their unique talents.
Speaking of callbacks, Bran has a great moment where he tells Littlefinger that Chaos is a ladder. This is a reference to a conversation Littlefinger had with Varys back in the third series in which he expressed that same sentiment. Littlefinger also gifts a dagger to Bran who then passes it on to Arya and I for one can’t wait to see what she does with it.
Back in Dragonstone Jon shares his discovery with Danerys and it was cool to see more to do with the children of the forest. Plus I thought it was interesting how when they left the cave Jon was lit by fire and Danerys had a cooler more icy light. Jon seeing Theon for the first time since he left Winterfell and Danerys asking for his counsel were also great moments in this episode.
However the stand out moment has to go to the battle at the end of the episode in which Danerys finally took Olenna’s advice to be a dragon. The sequence features several main characters on both sides of the battle in a fiery spectacle that left me speechless. We even got to see the battle from Tyrion’s perspective as he watched the battle unfold.
Jamie, Bronn and Dickon facing off against a horde of Dothraki Warriors was pretty cool and they all had great moments in the battle. However everything changed when Drogon entered the fray and started barbecuing the Lannister army and the food they had taken in the last episode. After the losses Danerys has suffered in the last few episodes it was so cool to see her show everyone how powerful she can be.
There is still three episodes left of this series and with Jamie’s fate unclear, I for one can’t wait to see what happens next.
